Research Science Institute (RSI)
RSI is a six-week summer program hosted at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It’s the first cost-free program of its kind, combining on-campus coursework in scientific theory with off-campus research in science and engineering.

Harvard University’s popular entry-level course that teaches the foundations of computer science and programming. Designed for majors and non-majors alike, it covers algorithms, data structures, software engineering, and web development using languages like C, Python, and JavaScript. No prior experience required.
Research Mentorship Programs for Students
Polygence is an online research mentorship program that pairs high school students with expert mentors to explore topics of their choice. Through 10 one-on-one sessions, students develop independent projects—ranging from research papers to podcasts—while building skills and confidence for college and beyond.
The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program
The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) is a summer internship for U.S. high school students. Participants work on real-world naval research projects at Department of Navy labs, gaining hands-on STEM experience and earning a stipend. The program lasts eight weeks and is open to U.S. citizens aged 16 and older.
Pre-College Initiative
The Pre-College Initiative (PCI) by the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) aims to inspire K–12 students, particularly from underrepresented communities, to pursue STEM careers. PCI offers hands-on activities, competitions, and mentorship, including the NSBE Jr. program, Summer Engineering Experience for Kids (SEEK), and the Try-Math-A-Lon (TMAL) competition. These initiatives provide students with academic and leadership development opportunities to succeed in STEM fields.
Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) Jr. Chapters
The SHPE Jr. program at the University of Arizona inspires high school students to pursue STEM careers. Through biweekly meetings, students learn about engineering and connect with college-level SHPE members, fostering mentorship and career exploration in a supportive environment.
Free programs for students
Girls Who Code offers free virtual programs for girls in grades 3–12 to learn coding, game design, AI, and cybersecurity. Through after-school clubs, summer programs, and self-paced courses, participants build tech skills and gain mentorship in a supportive, female-centric environment.
